Michael Schur was inspired to create "A Man On the Inside" after watching the Chilean documentary "The Mole Agent"
Chronology
Charles, a retired man, gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad for a private detective and becomes a mole in an undercover investigation at a nursing home. He says, "The Mole Agent" documentary is powerful because it makes people of any age, ethnicity, or gender feel something very similar, and I would describe that feeling in a very reductive way as: “I have to call my mom.” On our show, we tried to do a similar thing with the tone: Does our show make us call our moms?
Remake of El agente topo (2020)
I’m 67 years old and it was wonderful to see so many actors of our generation and their great comedic styles. These actors only get better with age and are great in this cute comedy series!
It’s good because about halfway through you have a pretty good idea who the culprit is
The script gets a little lost trying to solve the mystery and get into the character plots. Don’t mind that it’s not really a secret because you’re just passing the time watching these golden old ladies do and show off their stuff.
It’s really not a secret
Just a recognition of how brave it is to be a senior citizen and still be active and feel seen in our youth-centric society. What a nice tribute to those who support us and help us navigate the minefields when this series was outdated.
