A modern day tale of making a fortune in the oil rig world of West Texas. A landowner, at least one working in the oil industry, will act as a go-between for exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. They basically manage the land and secure the leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a construction site foreman, they build roads, housing workers (human camp), oversee the assembly of excavation equipment, and drilling the well site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part-time decision-makers, problem solvers, and facilitators. Featured on CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily have been rated an 8.5 – 9. If it weren’t for the awkward and highly sexualized daughter and ex-wife/mother. They serve no plot purpose and are downright annoying and offensive to the women of West Texas. As someone from the Texas Wild West, I understand where Sheridan is coming from in a way, but this is awful. West Texas women are the strongest and most ambitious women I know. Plus, the writing and acting are fantastic. Sheridan could easily have another Yellowstone on her hands if she could get rid of the awkward interfamilial tension. But on the other hand, I like Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and overall this is an absolutely delightful show.
