A modern tale of fortune-telling in the world of West Texas oil rigs
Check out writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV shows on IMDb, ranked by user rating. A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build housing for workers (man camp), set up the excavation machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixer, part troubleshooter, and part facilitator.
A great start to two episodes!
Billy Bob Thorton (Tommy Norris) is absolutely fantastic in the lead role. I saw Jacob Lofland (Cooper Norris) when he was on “Justified” as a newbie. Ali Larter (Angela Norris) as Tommy’s ex-wife and Michelle Randolph (Ainsley Norris), Tommy’s daughter, are insufferable and I’m already rooting for really bad things to happen to them!
Big Green: Good!
The character Jon Hamm (Monty Miller), Tommy’s boss and company owner, may represent my hopefully unfulfilled fears for this growing series. In short, I fear that creator/writer Taylor Sheridan may adopt a bumper sticker mentality and reduce the series to: Big Oil: Bad! If that happens, I’ll change my rating and walk away!
