Britain allowed filming inside the office of the foreign secretary, an honor rarely granted to any film or movie production, especially an American one
Chronology
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, lands a high-profile job she’s not suited for, with tectonic implications for her marriage and her political future. The producers convinced the American and British governments to let them use real-life locations as filming locations for the series, including the brand-new American embassy (in Nine Elms), which opened in 2018.

The only location that was unavailable was Winfield House, the royal residence of the American ambassador. Although it’s accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London outside Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes.
Keri Russell’s performance here is nothing short of a revelation
Her portrayal of career American diplomat Kate Wyler is a mesmerizing mix of strength, humor, intelligence, vulnerability and, oh my, sensuality. “The Diplomat” expertly caricatures the realm of international diplomacy and its citizens.
All Netflix needs to do now is announce Season 2 and let Ms
And while the world has yet to descend into the chicanery of the story’s plot, the wonderfully talented and diverse cast makes it easy to believe that most governments are overrun by people who have never emotionally escaped high school. This series looks good, sounds good, feels good — it’s sublimely entertaining and intelligent adult entertainment.
